Experience pop music from the turn-of-the-century sounds that celebrated technical advances to new wave, heavy metal, and the introduction of music videos.  Documentary film footage of historical events, coupled with film clips and stills of countless music performances, are interwoven with narration, creating a unique perspective on the social background and events against which each style of music developed.  Students will experience the sights and sounds of some of the most dynamic, exuberant times:  ragtime, jazz, swing, the song era, and '50s and '60s rock and roll.  Descriptions of the rise of folk music, hard rock, country, punk rock, disco, soul, funk, and reggae complete this comprehensive program.
